BTS’ SUGA Has Now Entered The Billboard Hot 100 Chart In These Three Incredible Roles, Here’s How He’s Ruling The Chart

“SUGA (of BTS) aka Agust D (solo artist) aka Min Yoon-gi (official name) is a man of many varied talents, whether as a rapper, producer, composer, song writer and singer, he always gives 1000%. He has produced hits for artists like IU, Heize, Suran, Epik High, Halsey and recreated Samsung’s ringtone “Over the Horizon. The Korea Music Copyright Association attributes over 100 songs to SUGA as a songwriter and producer, including Suran’s “Wine” which peaked at number two on the Gaon Music Chart and won best Soul/R&B track of the year at the 2017 Melon Music Awards.

SUGA writes, composes, arranges, mixes, and masters his own material. He plays piano and produces mainly hip hop and R&B music. His lyrics involve themes that are “full of dreams and hope,” conceived with the intent of his music becoming “many people’s strength. In January 2018, SUGA was promoted to a full member of the Korea Music Copyright Association.


As a solo artist: SUGA’s “D-2” released under his rapper name Agust D was released on May 22 with the title track “Daechwita.” The song debuted on Billboard Hot 100 at #76. It was the first time SUGA entered the chart as a soloist and made him the second-highest ranking Korean solo artist on the Hot 100, after PSY who peaked at No. 2 with “Gangnam Style.” The album “D-2” entered the Billboard 200 at No. 11 while the song “Daechwita” debuted at #1 on the World Digital Song Sales chart where SUGA took over the whole Top 10 with songs from his “D-2” mixtape which also topped the World Albums chart. As an artist on the Artist 100 chart, Agust D debuted at No. 4.

As a collaborator: On Dec. 21, “Girl Of My Dreams” Juice WRLD x SUGA debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Digital Song Sales chart, marking the first time either artist has ever had the bestselling song in the United States. This made SUGA the first Korean solo artist to ever debut at #1 on the chart. On the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the week of Dec. 25, “Girl Of My Dreams” ranked the highest at #29, which was the second-highest debut on the chart by any Korean soloist. “Girl Of My Dreams” is also the first time either SUGA or Juice WRLD had a #1 song on the Digital Song Sales chart.

As a producer: SUGA wrote and produced “Stay Alive” sang by Jung Kook which was an OST for BTS’ ongoing Web toon “7FATES: CHAKHO” On Billboard Hot 100, the song debuted at #95. “Stay Alive” debuted at #1 on Billboard Digital Song Sales chart, at #6 on Digital Songs Sales chart, #13 on Billboard Global 200 and #8 on Billboard Global Excluding US.
