It is so unfortunate that with the current situation that is happening around the world with the pandemic that there are those who still chose hate instead of peace, love and harmony. Violence, hate, discrimination has been rife and heart breaking to read and hear on the news of violence perpetrated against particular groups of people. Everyone has the right to exist regardless of race, gender, color, identity, religion, country or how they choose to identify. No one should live in fear or be hidden because of fear.
BTS have always spoken about inclusion, love, togetherness, their lyrics have always resonated so well and deeply with those that listen to them. Jin, Suga, RM, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook, have openly spoken about mental health, depression, fears, loses and have not forgotten themselves in terms of sharing their raw experiences with pain and how they have dealt with it. Hate crimes against any person is unacceptable and it saddens me whenever race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, country of origin or whatever other reasoning is used against someone to hurt and main without cause.
As much as BTS have offered us comfort in times of pain, they themselves have felt it, it is like a bad cycle or history repeating itself with the mistreatment that they continue to face. Individuals or groups trying to excuse their blatant racism, xenophobia as sattire, jokes, comedy, ‘it was taken out of context‘ as reason to speak, spread and spew causes that lead to violence against individuals is no longer acceptable, racism is not comedy nor is it an opinion.
For the longest time BTS have not spoken about all the hate and discrimination that they have faced over the years but recent events have made is impossible to not share their pain with fans. They have done a great job of always putting their fans before themselves and I believe maybe only releasing that pain onto each other in the privacy of their homes.
BTS have never shied away from speaking up for the weak, they stood against racism with #BlackLivesMatter, when they were just starting out they showed through their actions that they felt pain with those whose lives were lost in a tragic national accident in their hometown. They have always shown their support and now it is no different with #StopAsianHate as they themselves have been victims of said hate just because of where they come from. BTS have stood by their fans, and ARMY have always and will always fight for them against any negative force that tries to discredit, disrespect or demote their personal lives achievements or otherwise.
BTS have always been fearless in fighting for equal treatment against the innocent regardless of what the consequences might be, their irrefutable bravery is beyond admirable and to be emulated. They show that standing up for what you believe in is more important than worrying about what they, its always they, will think about.
BTS are not just artists for the sake of being artists who produce music. They have always had one reason for their existence, to bring comfort and light to the forgotten and be the “Apanman” (superhero) of someone even though they themselves are hurting.
As a hurting world, it is time to come together, not tear each other apart for reasons that are flimsy and unnecesary. The world needs more understanding and love and self control. Celebrities took a stand against #StopAsianHate, it is no longer just about speaking but taking action, the world needs a lot of healing right now…
BTS’ full statement
“We send our deepest condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. We feel grief and anger.
We recall moments when we faced discrimination as Asians.
We have endured expletives without reason and were mocked for the way we look. We were even asked why Asians spoke English.
We cannot put into words the pain of becoming the subject of hatred and violence for such reason. Our own experiences are inconsequential compared to the events that have occurred over the past few weeks. But these experiences were enough to make us feel powerless and chip away our self-esteem.
What is happening right now cannot be dissociated from our identity as Asians. It required considerable time for us to discuss this carefully and we contemplated deeply on how we should voice our message.
But what our voice must convey is clear.
We stand against racial discrimination.
We condemn violence.
You, I and we have the right to be respected. We will stand together“
