“Inner Child” is BTS V’s song released on February 21, 2020, and appears as the fourteenth track in their fourth studio album Map of the Soul: 7. According to a press release by Big Hit Entertainment, “Inner Child” reflects “V’s past self, who was going through a rough time,” and the song’s deep meaning definitely comes through its lyrics.
RM also shared his sentiment working on Inner Child, saying: “I wanted to fill the song with pretty words for little kid Taehyung in the past.” When RM first started working on this track, he wanted to get into V’s mindset. He reflected on their old days: “When V first joined, he came off as a troublemaker. We wore weird outfits, went around together, went out to eat ice cream without telling the others and getting scolded. Tae and I have child-like tastes, we were rebellious. We have many precious memories.”
RM also explained that the lyric summer’s day out, grey-lit streets was in reference to their days running about in Big Hit Entertainment’s previous location (Nonhyeon-dong).
