BTS Nominated in Five Categories For The 2021 Korean Music Awards

On 26th January 2021 Korean Music Awards selection committee announced in an online press conference its nominees for the Korean Music Awards ceremony to be held on 28th February 2021. The awards consist of 4 main categories – Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Artist of the Year, and Rookie of the Year plus 18 genre-categories, with each genre awarding a song-winner and an album-winner.

There are also two special awards, chosen by the selection board. The nominations are based on albums and songs released between Dec. 1, 2019, and Nov. 30, 2020, and selected by 65 committee members, which includes pop music critics, music journalists and television show producers.

Grammy Nominated Artist BTS received nominations in five categories. They are one of five acts that have received the most nominations. BTS have been nominated in the following categories

Musician of the Year – BTS

Album of the Year – Map Of The Soul:7

Song of the Year – Dynamite

Best Pop Album – Map Of The Soul: 7

Best Pop Song – Dynamite

Best Pop Song – IU “Eight (Prod. & Feat. SUGA of BTS)

Both Map Of The Soul: 7 album and Dynamite single released this year, have performed well in terms of sales and breaking record. BTS themselves have won several awards in past events. This makes it the fourth year that the worldwide sensations have been nominated at the Korean Music Awards.

“The five said nominees must be named in any discussion of popular music in 2020 not only in regards to the evaluation of their music, but also in other subsidiary aspects including the influence of their performances,” award committee member Kim Yun-ha.

The 18th Korean Music Awards. The award ceremony is scheduled to be livestreamed online at 6 p.m., Feb. 28.
